Research suggests that once people earn $75,000 per year, making additional money has no positive effect on emotional well-being and happiness. It seems that money is important to ensure our basic needs are met and a decent standard of living, but beyond that point there is little evidence that material purchases (including fancy homes and expensive cars) produce lasting happiness.
How we think of time can lead to some odd results. For example, imagine your co-worker says next Wednesdayโs meeting has been moved forward two days. When is the meeting going to be held? Your response can be predicted by how you see your relationship to time. If you see time flowing toward you, youโre more likely to say Monday. But if you see yourself wading through time, then youโre more likely to say Friday.
